The Minotaur was named that because he was the son of King Minos. Anyone with a bull head has to be named after their dad, like the Kyletaur or something.

I’ve seen (and I think reblogged) this before, but it just struck me. The Minotaur is not the son of Minos. He’s the son of Minos’s wife. The father is a bull, that’s why he’s like that.

And yes you could say there doesn’t have to be a biological connection to have a father-son relationship, but considering Minos ordered the Minotaur trapped in a labyrinth, I’m not sure he thinks of him as his son.

The Cretan bull is an absentee dad :/

Minotaur is a species but with a low level of genetic diversity and endangered status.

So the Minotaur is named after someone family-adjacent who hates their guts?

Like, someone who should have been a step dad?

Being named after someone who doesn’t want you, because you remind them of how your wife got sort of drug-raped because you were too busy showing off to help her.

Being named after the man whose failure has come to life through your existence.

Is Frankenstein’s monster the same species as the Minotaur?

I’m going to hazard a guess the cultural context of the Minotaur is different from the cultural context of Frankenstein’s monster is different from the context of modern interpretation of both so maybe not when it comes to the actual text.

But also I love where you’re going so yeah, why not.

TIL the silvery salamander only has females and they reproduce by borrowing sperm from a different species! And 0% of the male’s genetic material gets passed down!

That’s so weird I love nature!!
